April 14

Hello Questers!

For all who celebrate, Happy Passover, Happy Easter!

We hope you are all well during our stay at home order.  Mr. Taylor and I continue to refine our teaching so it best fits our distance learning.  Thank you for your feedback.

New(ish) website!
We continue to refine our website to make it easy for students and parents to use.  You will now see both a schedule (see the schedule tab) which outlines the week, and a daily checklist.  The daily checklist can be accessed by clicking on the different days on the first page of the website.  This screencast is being sent to students to preview some of these changes.

Time suggested for distance learning
The administrative team has suggested a time limit for instruction for students in grade 5/6.  The suggested time for 5/6 is 120-140 minutes per day.   This includes Applied Academics.  We are doing our best to comply with this suggestion.

In the daily checklist, you will see recommended times for each subject area.  These are suggested guidelines.  As we know, all students work at different rates.  If your student needs more work, see the optional work on the weekly schedule.  If your student is struggling with more than 5 hours of work a day, please let us know, and we can help your student manage time. Please let us know how the time is working out for your family.

Applied Academics
In the schedule we have created for students, we have included their AA assignments.  Most AA classes are requiring one assignment per week.  We have suggested which days students should work on each assignment, however, this is just a suggestion in an effort to help students stay organized.  Students are free to work on whichever AA assignment they want, when they want.

Model project this week
Your student has a project this week.  This project does not need to be elaborate.  It is further practice with creating / drawing models of scientific practices.  There is a slideshow on the website to help your student navigate this.

Book groups
Your student participates in a book group each week.  On our website, you will find a tab that will lead your student to readings and a link to the book group itself.
